Ashgrove/The Gap Rotary Club best in district The Rotary Club of Ashgrove/The Gap has carried off the Best Club in Rotary District 9600 Award for the fifth time and was runner up for the International Service Trophy and received a special commendation for youth service. Past District Governor, Michael Gregory, announced the award and presented the trophy to Past Club President, Shaughn Forbes, at the recent District Changeover. The trophy will be proudly displayed at club meetings each week. As would be expected a number of individual club members also received awards recognising their work for Rotary during the year. Over the past 12 months, the Rotary Club of Ashgrove/The Gap has supported and/or coordinated local programs such as the Australia Day Citizenship Ceremony, The Gap Regional Instrumental Primary Performers School and a function to celebrate the sesquicentenary of Ashgrove. Some of the funds raised went to sending two children and their carers to Camp Quality, a program that supports children living with cancer, to send a student to the Siemen’s Science Forum on the Gold Coast and to support the Australian Rotary Health Research Fund, which has recently concentrated on mental health research. Two mental health forums were held for local secondary school students. International programs supported included Rotary’s Oceania Medical Aid for Children and Rotary Australia World Community Service programs such as Donations In Kind. Some members and their partners went to the Solomon Islands to help develop local infrastructure. They are planning to return following the devastation of the recent tsunami.
