Community Services
Historically, Rotary has been a vocational organisation since its origins during the early Paul Harris days. This tradition has continued over the years.
However it has also had a strong community focus throughout its history.
Our Club has been a strong supporter of a number of community events and will continue this year. In addition it will endeavour to “develop the tradition” by continuing its presence in Ashgrove with the Carols By Candlelight started in 2009.
Aims
- Enhance the understanding and goodwill between Rotarians and the local community
- Encourage members to use their talents and contacts to benefit the community
Activities and Programs
- Continue our long sponsorship and involvement in the Gap Regional Instrument Primary Performers School (GRIPPS) program by supporting the associated barbeque and concert,
- Continue our initiative to extend into the Ashgrove area by holding another Carols’ in the Park’ evening in December,
- Support members of diverse cultural groups in our community to achieve Australian Citizenship by organizing in January the Australia Day Citizenship Ceremony in Wittonga Park,
- Participate with other members in our community in the Clean-up Australia Day next March,
- Continue to support local community initiatives, such as
- Participating in the Bowelscan programme,
- Supporting Sister Christina in her assistance to the needy in The Gap area,
- Investigate community needs and the services available, such as:
- Sponsoring local youth activities, and local disadvantaged individuals,
