Rotary Ashgrove - The Gap Project Team: Cliff & Shirley Weder, David Kumeta

The Rotary Club of Ashgrove / The Gap and Rotarians from the Sunshine Coast are continuing to support the project of refurbishing the facilities at the Gizo Community School and other nearby schools following the devastations caused by the 2007 tsunami.

One of the tasks was to install 10 drinking water tanks with associated intake guttering and plumbing at various school locations at Gizo and some adjoining islands. The tanks have been manufactured locally from funds donated through our Rotary Club community, with additional funding through through Rotary International.

The organising of the tanks, the materials and workers to the various sites was in itself an exercise in logistics.

In addition to the water tanks there is the continuation of the refurbishment of the dilapidated class rooms; together with the setting up of library facilities, including the implementation of systems, registers and staff training by our designated teacher librarian.

Stock for the library and the freight involved to get the books to Gizo were a challenge.
