Mission
Vocational Service encourages Rotarians to serve others through their vocations and practice high ethical standards.
Objectives
Foster high ethical standards in business and professions in accordance with the ideals of Rotary.
Encourage members to use their vocational talents to benefit the community.
Uphold the recognition of all useful occupations.
Actions
Workplace Visits
Conduct workplace visits for acquainting club members various businesses. This is interesting for members and designed to better appreciate different vocations in our society. I will also improve the club’s vocational services to the community.
Club meeting talk
Once per month, a club member is invited to give a short vocational talk to the meeting addressing the topic “What business I’m in”. The talks discuss the member’s vocation and how it interfaces with and benefits the wider community.
Guest speakers
Each second week a guest speaker is invited to talk at club meetings. The subject of a large proportion of the presentations was the vocation of the speaker. These guest speaker occasions are an excellent opportunity to increase the vocational awareness of our members and during question time, to promote and foster Rotary’s ethical vocational standards.
Business networking / Business and Community Dinner
Our club organised and conducted an event where over 30 local business, professional and community people attended a dinner evening with our club members and partners. Mike O’Hagen, the high profile entrepreneur and managing director of Mini Movers was the guest speaker who gave an address entitled “Secrets to becoming an award winning business”. The event was an opportunity to introduce Rotary to these local business and community people and to showcase its understanding and recognition of Rotary’s vocational ideals.
