New Generations Service Committee
DIRECTOR BOB NEWEY
CHAIRMAN BRENDAN CARROLL
Mission
Prepare the New Generations - all young people up to the age of 30 years - by improving their life skills to ensure a better future, while recognising the diversity of their needs.
Objectives
Implementation of the structured programs of Rotary International for New Generations:
- Interact
- Rotaract
- Rotary Youth Leadership Awards and
- Youth Exchange.
- Implementation of programmes to improve the life-skills of young people.
Actions
Interact
Continue with this well entrenched program that has been handled extremely well by Phillip Blakey. Put into place a succession plan for the day when Phillip Blakey relinquishes this role, which he has done mostly single handed for many years.
Rotaract
Initiation of a new Rotaract club in our local area.
Sponsor a person for each award
- Ryla for 18-24 year olds ( Rotary Youth Leadership Awards)
- Rypen for 14-17 year olds ( Rotary Youth Forum of Enrichment)
- Siemens Science Experience from year 9-10
- National Youth Science Forum form year 11-12.
Sponsoring
Sponsor a young person for participation Queensland University Adventure in Citizenship held in Canberra and run by Canberra Rotary Clubs. Gather more information and confirm if still a current program.
Rotary Education Assistance Programme (REAP)
Continue with this program that supports young people with some musical ability from local primary school with a approximate $600 gift from our club to continue with their musical studies.
QUT Neville Lund Award
Check and see if the QUT Neville Lund Award is still in existence.
Awards for Speech Nights
Students to be selected from schools in area eg The Gap High – Mt St Michaels and Marist Ashgrove, to be given “All Rounder Awards for their contributions.
Mental Health
Continue this program by having local schools involved ie, Mt St Michaels, and The Gap High Schools for years 8-10. Mental health is a necessary subject that we must encourage and impart our youth to learn and be aware of this complex which is not always fully understood.
Exchange Students
Discuss at our club forum the mood and acceptance to continue the Youth Exchange Programme as our club has not been involved for as several of years. Sponsor a short-term student exchange with a club in New Zealand.
